About the Artist

Lisa Galloway Sprietsma was raised in rural Wisconsin surrounded by horses and cows.  After much traveling, she settled in Arizona.  She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Arizona.  She lives on the San Pedro River with her husband, horses, dogs, and cats.

Artist Statement:   This work reflects the balance I strive for in life.  There are internal, emotional struggles and world choices facing all of us.  The choices are staggering.  Where lies the balance between loneliness and solitude? Loss and connection?  Responsibility for our Earth and each other? These questions weigh on my mind as I paint hourglasses, grapes, wishbones, and lemons.  Storm clouds, rain and tornadoes become the emotional landscape upon which the still life rests.  Will the fruit tumble?   Will the string break? The juxtaposition underscores what it means to explore life’s uncertainty and our utter vulnerability.
